The Family Threads Project

Using DNA and genealogy to help people find their birth parents

The Family Threads Project helps people who do not know one or both of their birth parents and cannot afford professional genetic genealogy services.

I’m Kylie, the genealogist behind Ask Grandma Kylie. I donate my research time to help identify birth parents through DNA results, family tree research and historical records. You do not need to have already taken a DNA test to inquire.

What does it cost?

The service is free. If you can afford to contribute, voluntary co-payments are welcome. You can still receive help if you cannot pay anything.

Community donations and funds raised through my textile art help cover expenses such as DNA tests, certificates and access to records. The help available depends on project funds and my research capacity.

Research cannot guarantee that a birth parent will be identified or that contact or a relationship will follow.

To inquire, contact me with a brief description of your situation and whether you have already taken a DNA test and who you took the test with.
